A little motivation for your Monday morning.

This is happening over here.
A bright front door, a friendly greeting and a mailbox big enough for magazines.
Now, to fix that doorbell.

Totally fired up by Dewit Design Camp I went to interned at last week, (yeah! Thanks Anna Beth!) I have unofficially declared this week “Curtain Week” at my house. The time for looking at my too long, too narrow, and recently plum-stained (don’t ask) curtains is over.
Here’s some inspiration as I make my plans. I’ve already acquired curtain rings and drapery clips – no clip rings! no tab tops! – and think that alone will be a vast improvement even if I don’t drop a squillion dollars on some emerald green silk.

Don’t be scared. Remember that lovely Abigail Edwards Wallpaper I asked about before? I got some, and it’s up!
I love it so much. Now…a shower curtain, shelves, some other things, but I’m going to take a minute to decide what I want to do while I hang out in this bathroom, gazing at the walls. Don’t mind me.
In other ‘what’s going on in the bathroom’ news: Ewok stand-off!
So, I’m helping another friend put together her Brooklyn apartment. It’s a lovely place with nice light and lots of room, and right now they have some great pieces but a lot of BROWN. It’s very brown.
First up: colorful barstools! Right now, one lonely brown barstool hangs out in space and makes me sad. Lots of the inspiration images she pulled were rooms with lots of neutrals and a few bright pops of color. So goodbye, mopey little stool.
I pulled these options for her. What do you think?

I want that low-back Tolix knockoff so badly. As soon as my baby won’t fall off of it and break her arm, I will get it.
I’m having second thoughts about mixing fabrics on the chairs I’m getting reupholstered. I like the idea of mixing fabrics, but I’m worried that I’d get tired of it and maybe I should just go with one awesome print?
So…mix?:

Or one fantastic fabric?
My bathroom and backyard are all torn up, but it’s going to be worth it!
I promise to show you better progress pics soon! It’s time to get busy.

I’ve been looking for some modern wing chairs for our living room for awhile. Not too tall, not too wide, but cozy enough to read by the fire during the rainy winter here in Portland.
Then last week, I found the perfect pair of vintage wing chairs on Etsy at LivenUPdesign! Plus, Jenn, the shop owner, included custom reupholstering in the price. Done and done.
And then…hours and hours of looking at fabric. So much fabric to love!
I narrowed my choices down to a soft velvet for the seat cushions, and a great print for the back. Here are the three finalists. What would you pick?
Fabrics: dark grey velvet, eagle print, blue velvet, robshaw print, grey fabric, red print
Remember when I was making plans for our back porch and a living wall? Even though it’s not totally done yet, I actually made some progress last month and I thought I’d share.
I painted over the dirt-blue wall and rusty-red floor with porch paint. Just doing this made it so much nicer to look out the back door.
Woolly Pockets had a 50% off sale on the camel color, so I bought two of the Wally Threes and screwed them right into the back wall. I hit up Portland Nursery and learned that “thrillers, fillers and spillers” are actual categories of plants (!), so I bought a bunch of all three and planted them the way that Woolly Pockets told me to.
*UPDATE: I realize that the reason they put the camel color on sale is that the dirt shows when you do a lot of watering. I think (hope) this will be less of an issue as my spillers take off.
*UPDATE 2: All colors of outdoor Woolly Pockets are on sale now for 30% off. Run don’t walk! Just kidding, walk if you want.
And now, we look out at this (sorry about the grainy pic):
Instead of this:
Better already, right?
Still on my list:
I was very busy, mostly looking at this:
But now I’ve had my fill of trashy novels, micheladas and guacamole, and I’m back.
